The Never-Never has been on my mind ever since I handed over my pocket money to an old lady in exchange for some cheap milky opal. "You can dig up your own opals in Coober Pedy if you wish," the woman told me enthusiastically. "It's a long way from here." I got an honest "No" from Dad after asking to visit there on holidays. A few years past and I discovered a book about Coober Pedy in the school library. I became hooked on the largest opal mining area in the world. To satisfy my burning curiosity 25 years later, I finally drove deep into the heart of opal country. Unexpectedly awestruck by the terrain from above I felt compelled to document it.
