The Never-Never has been on my mind since I handed over my pocket money to an old lady in exchange for some cheap milky opal. She mumbled to me something along the lines of, "You can dig up your own opals in Coober Pedy if you wish. It's a long way from here, you'll have to ask your parents to take you." I got an honest "No" from Dad. A few years past and I discovered a book about Coober Pedy in the school library and I became hooked on the largest opal mining area in the world. To satisfy over 25 years of burning curiosity I finally drove deep into the heart of opal country in 2017. Unexpectedly awestruck by the terrain from above I felt compelled to document it.
